Espace 400e

A real whirlwind of shows, entertainment, and free activities for the whole family will be on offer every day as artists, singers, musicians, dancers, acrobats, historians, and conference speakers light up Grande Place, the wharves, the Ephemeral Gardens, Petite Place, and all around the pavilion for 17 uninterrupted weeks.
 
LE PAVILLON DU 400e
This brand-new building will showcase the PASSAGERS/PASSENGERS exhibition, designed and produced by Patrice Sauvé. An interactive virtual tour of people's comings and goings, the exhibition is touching and accessible to all. The exhibition - the site's only paid activity - will run until October 19th.
 
LA GRANDE PLACE
Grande Place will welcome a procession of musicians, comedians, and singers all summer long, including Émilie-Claire Barlow, Ima, Marco Calliari, José Gonzalez, We are Wolves, Tokyo Police Club, Marie-Thérèse Fortin, Les Zappartistes, Maurane, Thomas Dutronc, Daran, Roland Martel Orchestra, Bob Walsh, Jamil, Yves Lambert and the Bébert Orchestra, and many more!
Artists from America, Sweden, France, Belgium, Indonesia, and Egypt will all be performing at Espace 400e this summer. Every Monday, Dynamite Cabaret will bring together all kinds of artists to wow crowds-with a dash of humor thrown in.

LES GRANDES RENCONTRES
Grande Place will also be the venue for the Meetings That Matter series. The meetings will be held throughout the summer, taking the form of conferences, master classes, and round tables. Conference speakers of all stripes will include Jean Provencher, Jean Soulard, Marie Laberge, Réjean Lemoine, and Denis Vaugeois. Master classes and round tables will also be held by equally talented speakers on a host of different themes.

LES PREMIÈRES NATIONS (The First Nations)
A modern program of Amerindian, Métis, and Inuit creations and activities. A series of fascinating encounters awaits this summer.

LES QUAIS (WHARVES)
Street arts on the wharves!
Young and old will marvel at original and fun numbers by the likes of Théâtre de l'Aubergine, La Tête de Pioche, Poupées (K)rinkées, Artefacts et artifices, Toxique Trottoir, and many more. Laughs and craziness guaranteed!

LES JARDINS ÉPHÉMÈRES
THE EPHEMERAL GARDENS. Eleven gardens created by eleven different artists from Canada, France, the United States, and the United Kingdom will intrigue and appeal to visitors between the Old Port Market and Espace 400e
And kids games and workshops led by Boîte à science and Rêves en stock will explore science, sports, and Quebec City's history.

Through this unprecedented collaboration of the Musée du Louvre, which has agreed to a loan of exceptional scope, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec will present masterworks from the Musée du Louvre's eight departments: Egyptian Antiquity, Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquity, Oriental Antiquity, Islamic Art, Art objects, Paintings, Sculptures and Graphic Arts. Visitors will have the privilege of admiring this outstanding selection under four main themes: "Loving and Dying", "Learning and Working", "Inhabiting and Embellishing", "Celebrating and Entertaining".

During 40 minutes, much more than an historical panorama, the Moulin à Images will offer a playful 3-D show about the city's past, present, and future. It will be a mosaic of icons, sounds, and ideas organized around four great ages of Quebec City: the age of waterways and exploration; the age of roadways and settlement; the age of railways and development; and the age of airways and communication.

It is the only crewed non stop transatlantic race to be held from west to east, linking Quebec to Europe, two great regions with lots in common.

The Great March to Wendake, Meeting the Nations of North America
Bringing together more than 40 Nations and over 400 participants, The Great March to Wendake will take place in two parts.
First, a formal event will gather the First Nations of Canada on the occasion of a great feast to be held in Wendake on July 16.
The next day, participants from different communities will march along a symbolic route from Convention Centre to City Hall where a welcoming ceremony presided by the Grand Chief will be held. Afterwards, participants will continue on to Espace 400e for the finale of the Great Meeting. Artists representing the 10 First Nations and the Inuits will join together in a celebration of friendship between Nations.

Sir Paul McCartney will sing on the Plains of Abraham on July 20 as part of the celebrations surrounding Quebec City's 400th birthday.
"I am doing a gig, a big gig, in Quebec City on July 20 to help Quebec celebrate their 400th anniversary," the former Beatle said in a videotaped message from London on Monday. "That (400 years) is a long time.
"We're coming to Quebec for the first time. We're going to have a great time and I would love to see you there."
Tickets will be free.
McCartney, who played a recent open-air show in Kyiv, Ukraine, has never appeared in Quebec City.

The Quebec city International Festival of Military Bands is the only event aimed at military music lovers. The event welcomes some twenty bands each year and features more than 800 musicians in approximately forty activities, including popular concerts and special thematic events.

Le Chemin qui marche (The Walking Road) - by Olivier Dufour
The evening will start at 9 o'clock with a mixed media show featuring local and international performers: more than 140 dancers, acrobats and fire-eaters will fill the 120-metre wide stage.
Using the latest stage technologies, the legend of The Walking Road transports the public to a magical universe. A video ball, water screen and special aquatic effects, 260,000 watts of audio and 10,000 custom fireworks are designed to captivate spectators of all ages and origins.
This explosive kick-off will be followed with a new show by Champion and his G-Strings. Then, the group Bran Van 3000 will step in to present their new album, Rosé, turning the Baie de Beauport into a super outdoor nightclub. At the height of the evening, international star Moby will take over to keep the crowd dancing 'til dawn with a DJ version of his latest album, Last Night.

The anniversary of the founding of Quebec City, July 3rd, 2008 marks the heart of the 400th anniversary celebrations

Following the official ceremonies, the 400th anniversary commemorative show will be presented at Place de l'Assemblée nationale in the afternoon of Wednesday July 3, 2008. Directed by Pierre Boileau, this super show will feature popular Francophone singers and an historical theme. There will be repeat performances on July 4th and 5th to allow as many people as possible to attend.

« Québec plein la rue »
will be presented every evening on July 3rd, 4th and 5th, 2008 at Place de l'Assemblée nationale.
« Québec plein la rue » will bring the biggest international street performance companies here for a North American premiere.

The climax of the weekend will be the « Great Gathering » on Sunday July 6th, will see several thousand people converge on the Plains of Abraham to celebrate Québec's birthday together with Charles Aznavour.
